Fillip Frog's Fly Feast is our first iOS game, due for release at the end of this year! Fillip Frog began as “Fat Frog Feast” but like so many things as we expected when starting this company we had to pivot a little as we’ve started to put the pieces together for this game. The name suffered from two major problems. First, there are a lot of frog eats bug games out there. Which is fine, we knew we were not reinventing the wheel here but we also don’t want our first game to be lost in obscurity. Second, even though “Fat Frog Feast” has nice alliteration, it could still be more engaging.
Then it occurred to Mark at one of our weekly meetings that the obvious solution is to give our frog a name, and Fillip was born! Not only does this let us separate our selves from other frog games, while keeping the ever important words frog and fly in the title for search purposes, it also allows us to push more character and personality into our main character. We are also quite happy with the continued alliteration as well as the fun pun. you are trying to “fill up the frog” in “Fillip the Frog’s Fly Feast”. Gellini's Special Gift is our first in children's book that started as a very simple idea. The story of a child clown getting her first pair of clown shoes. The trick is we are telling the story while only looking at the characters feet! A very interesting proposition from an illustration point of view, especially when considering there is so much expression in a clowns painted face. But it also gives us a chance to explore a very interesting point of view while telling a fun story.
Gellini is a child. Now, what is so special about being a child? We were all children once or we are children now. Maybe we will always be children at heart. Close your eyes and remember how you feel when you receive a gift. It feels good, makes you happy and you feel special. The joy of sharing a gift with a child is even more special and what better place than in the circus!
This is the first in a series of digital portraits I’m doing as a study. Using volunteer facebook friends as reference material I’m creating playing cards incorporating iconic details. For Instance the Jack of Diamonds is classically rendered with a blue vest, a red hat and a gold cravat. He used to hold a dagger before the mirrored double ended cards became popular. He classically would be holding the scabbard but I decided that he would have the dagger raised. I also left out the halberd, instead giving him a pipe. I think this choice was informed by my having many fond memories of...
The First Pitch
Welcome to the Pitch! The first of a series of articles from the infinite cortex brain trust. This is going to be a weekly exploration of casual game design concentrating on mobile and web apps. I’ll be concentrating on mechanics and flavor at first, trying to pare down scope and eventually be producing small scale games bi-monthly based on the best pitches. So here’s the Pitch! Cirque Mechanique! A steampunk flavored juggling game. Essentially a combo of Tetris and Breakout, the curved swipe motion takes advantage of the most interesting...
